The band recorded a five-song demo on May 25, 1983, and Rose played his final show with Rapidfire just days later. W.A.R.: The Unauthorized Biography of William Axl Rose described Rapidfire’s songs as “sub- Judas Priest fare.” Their material fit the era, a metal-ish sound that aligned with what was permeating the Sunset Strip. The long tail wired6/29/2023 ![]() ![]() Anderson found himself blowing a pop quiz in the offices of a digital jukebox company called Ecast. The Long Tail began life in 2004 as an article for Wired after Mr. Chris Anderson popularized the concept in an October 2004 Wired magazine article, in which he mentioned, Apple and Yahoo! as examples of businesses applying this strategy. The term long tail has gained popularity as describing the retailing strategy of selling a large number of different items which each sell in relatively small quantities, usually in addition to selling large quantities of a small number of popular items. The book argues that products in low demand or that have a low sales volume can collectively build a better market share than their rivals, or exceed the relatively few current bestsellers and blockbusters, provided the store or distribution channel is large enough. It was shortlisted for the Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award on 18 September 2006. The book was listed in The New York Times Nonfiction Best Sellers list. The book, Anderson's first, is an expansion of his 2004 article The Long Tail in the magazine. ![]() ![]() The book was initially published on July 11, 2006, by Hyperion. ![]() You’ll never regret not working to spend time with family! Take some time off this summer to enjoy the seaside. The summer bank holiday is for some family fun. ![]() The 4th of July fell midweek which is not as great as when it falls at the end or beginning of the week. There’s Memorial Day but that is really before summer begins. In the United States, we don’t have that many official working days off during the summer. Here’s an overview of what it’s like to stay there. These seaside resorts in the UK (United Kingdom) all look amazing for kids and adults! They have three locations, all beachfront: Bogner Regis, Minehead, and Skegness. I was thrilled to learn about Butlins because here is a chance to get out and about with the family this summer at English seaside resorts! ![]() My biggest concern is what will the kids do all day? They are ages 8, 11, and 13, and finding activities that they all agree upon is practically impossible. ![]() Bonus points for England, too, since we wouldn’t have the language barrier.įrom Boston, where we live in a suburb, it’s the exact same flying time (actually a half-hour less) and approximate flight costs to go to California where our relatives are as to go to England. I had spent time in London and Cambridge, before kids, and I wanted to take the kids on more international trips. When he got back, I asked him if we should go as a family. It was a golfing trip with buddies to celebrate his friend’s 60th birthday. ![]() My husband just got back from a trip to the United Kingdom. ![]()

Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish6/29/2023 ![]() ![]() People feed the hungry, free the oppressed, undo heavy burdens. We have to move forward, somehow. To try to understand what might promote that, I turned to the world’s most-read book, the Bible. This phrase in Isaiah 58 piqued my interest: “repairer of the breach.”Here, the repairer isn’t a carpenter or mason but a caring community. That’s what researchers working with Saint Louis University are doing to learn about those enslaved by Jesuits at the school.Yet no amount of looking back can recompense historical harms. ![]() We can’t go back and undo the horrors of the middle passage or the sundering of families at slave auctions. What restoration is possible centuries later?A first step can be looking back and taking an honest accounting of the past. That’s where the hard work happens to restore, renew, make whole. But the shorter word it comes from – repair – strikes me as even bigger. As a noun, reparations suggests that a decision has been reached about concrete actions to redress past wrongs. As a verb, repair is a process. ![]()

![]() Struwwelpeter was an instant success when it was published in 1845. The illustrations are credited with helping to make the stories so memorable. They are simple but highly expressive, and they often feature exaggerated features and exaggeratedly silly situations. The illustrations in Struwwelpeter are as iconic as the stories themselves. The stories also feature outlandish characters, such as the frighteningly tall and wild-haired Shock-Headed Peter. The stories include The Story of Little Suck-a-Thumb, about a boy who sucks his thumb despite warnings, and The Story of Cruel Frederick, about a child who mistreats animals and eventually is eaten by a lion. The stories in Struwwelpeter are mostly cautionary, and they often involve terrifying consequences for children who misbehave. The stories are designed to teach children good behavior and to inspire them to stay away from bad habits. It consists of ten stories, each with its own rhyme, moral lesson, and accompanying illustration. The book is highly acclaimed for its morality tales, humorous rhymes, and funny illustrations. ![]() Struwwelpeter is a classic collection of children’s stories written in German by Heinrich Hoffmann in 1845.
